The theme addressed by Sea For Society was marine science with and for society. The project engaged stakeholders, citizens, and young people in an open and participatory dialogue to share knowledge, forge partnerships, and empower participants on societal issues related to Ocean.

The project included two phases:

• A consultation phase aimed at citizens and marine/maritime stakeholders with a focus on six ocean-related themes:food, health, a place to live, transport, jobs, and tourism.
• A mobilisation phase with a series of actions organised across Europe based on feedback from the consultation phase.

One of the project’s key successes was to develop and enrich the Blue Society concept as a starting point for better ocean governance.
