As part of 2019 theme \u201cGender and the Ocean\u201d DOALOS presented a <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/oceanic.global\/projects\/world-oceans-day-conference\/\">conference<\/a><\/span><\/strong> in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/oceanic.global\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Oceanic<\/span><\/strong> <strong>Global<\/strong><\/a>. During this conference, storytellers and speakers from all over the world joined to share their experience on increasing gender and ocean literacy in many various activities such as marine research, fisheries, labour at sea, policy-making\u2026 World Ocean Network joined forces with Friends of World Oceans Day organisations and was present at the UN event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the day, the 2019 photo contest winners were also announced in the UN hemicycle. You can discover all winners in each category <a href=\"https:\/\/unworldoceansday.org\/world-oceans-day-photo-competition\">here<\/a>. When preparing World Ocean Day next year, look at the UN photo contest and all its categories. It is co-organised with World Ocean Network and generally announced in March.<\/p>\n<p><strong>World Ocean Day worldwide<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In <strong>Cameroun<\/strong>, the association <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Benevoles-oceans-1415962855389584\/?__tn__=%2Cd%2CP-R&amp;eid=ARB2LIMq6hy4BDc5EcZEAy2sVd9GeIZ35NJwmfFsU93ki6akqfMySDNAhaqEAJzymsuGn_VqyvPfU4tI\">Les B\u00e9n\u00e9voles de l\u2019Oc\u00e9an<\/a><\/strong>, new World Ocean Network member, organised a big event for World Ocean Day. After a march for the Ocean with both children and citizen, they organised a meeting with traditional leaders of the area to sign the Kibri Declaration urging political leaders to take action towards the protection of the Ocean. During four days they set up a \u201cbiodiversity village\u201d where each partner proposed activities to children under the common theme \u201can Ocean plastic-free\u201d. A beach clean-up and stand-up show were also part of the celebration.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17078\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldoceannetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/WOD-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17078\" class=\"wp-image-17078\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldoceannetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/WOD-3-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"414\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.worldoceannetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/WOD-3-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.worldoceannetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/WOD-3-768x461.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.worldoceannetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/WOD-3.jpg 886w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-17078\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Clean Beach<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In North of <strong>France<\/strong>, Nausicaa organised many different types of events with local partners: a dance show in the exhibition, an award ceremony for the winners of a short film competition, a school art exhibition, etc. Mostly targeted towards children, many school took part to the celebration, presenting their year-long project on the Ocean: poems, games, drawings and sculpture.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17081\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldoceannetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/WOD-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17081\" class=\"wp-image-17081\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldoceannetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/WOD-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.worldoceannetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/WOD-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.worldoceannetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/WOD-2-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.worldoceannetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/WOD-2.jpg 585w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-17081\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Nausicaa<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To celebrate World Ocean Day in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecsite.eu\/activities-and-services\/ecsite-events\/conferences\/2019-ecsite-conference\"><strong>ECSITE conference<\/strong><\/a> in Copenhagen, World Ocean Network organised a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecsite.eu\/activities-and-services\/ecsite-events\/conferences\/sessions\/climate-talks-back-copenhagen\">session<\/a><\/strong> convened by Francisco Franco del Amo (Aquarium Finisterrae and WON President) and Manuel Cira (Nausicaa and WON Director). \u201cClimate talks: Back to Copenhagen\u201d session was about reflecting on the heritage of COP15 in Copenhagen and how science centres can take stock of the new information regarding the evolution of climate. A special focus was put on current good practices in public engagement and with policymakers on Climate change, and the 60+ participants were willing to further exchange and collaborate on the subject.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>World Ocean Day at the United-Nations This year in New-York, World Ocean Day was celebrated at the United Nations headquarters.
