{"id":16821,"date":"2019-01-29T15:31:37","date_gmt":"2019-01-29T15:31:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldoceannetwork.org\/?p=16821"},"modified":"2019-02-01T15:14:41","modified_gmt":"2019-02-01T15:14:41","slug":"world-ocean-network-workshop-on-high-seas-governance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldoceannetwork.org\/en\/world-ocean-network-workshop-on-high-seas-governance\/","title":{"rendered":"World Ocean Network workshop on high seas governance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the context of the new <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/enb.iisd.org\/oceans\/bbnj\/igc1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United Nations negotiations on the high seas<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, and as part of the <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marinaproject.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MARINA project<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, the World Ocean Network organised a workshop on high seas governance. Fourteen representatives of all sectors gathered and shared their ideas for a more inclusive governance of the areas beyond national jurisdictions. From these ideas, they co-constructed an action plan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Participants agreed on the two most urgent actions: research, to gather data, share knowledge and understand better the impacts of human activity on the high seas; and to raise awareness on the research.
