APRIL

 

April 27-30

International Conference 50 Years of Education and Awareness Raising for Shaping the Future of the Oceans and Coasts Sharing lessons learned and proposing long-term projections, Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The World Ocean Network sits on the scientific committee and it will co-chair a panel about awareness raising.

 

MAY

 

May 3-7

Fifth Global Conference on Oceans, Coasts and Islands Ensuring Survival, Preserving Life, Improving Governance: Oceans, Climate, Biodiversity: From Copenhagen 2009 to Nagoya 2010, UNESCO, Paris, France.

Major themes: 

Ensuring survival: Oceans, Climate and Security;

Preserving Life: Marine Biodiversity, Networks of Marine Protected Areas, and Celebrating the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity, Toward Nagoya 2010--Convention on Biological Diversity Conference of the Parties COP-10;

Improving Governance: Achieving Integrated, Ecosystem-Based Ocean and Coastal Management at National and Regional Levels and in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction, World Ocean Network will organise sessions about the importance of mobilizing the public and the private secto.

World Ocean Network will support the organisation of the Global Conference and will hold sessions about the importance of mobilising the public and the private sector for global ocean stewardship.

 

May 8

Mid-term meeting of the International Aquarium Forum (IAF) founding committee hosted by the 4th International Meeting of the World Ocean Network, Nausicaá, Boulogne sur Mer, France

May 9-12

Fourth International Meeting Acting together for the future of the Blue Planet including the first World Ocean Academy, Boulogne sur Mer, France.

As a follow up of the 5th Global Conference on Oceans, Coasts and Islands, the meeting will be held in link with 2010 International Year of Biodiversity: “Biodiversity is life. Biodiversity is our life.”

Participants will evaluate past and underway education and outreach activities on sustainable use of the ocean and draw up a joint action plan to further mobilize citizens and the civil society in the different regions of the world.

International Day for Biological Diversity. Biodiversity is life. Biodiversity is our life.

 On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity, French IUCN committee will organise Fête de la Nature (May 19-23) with a special focus on seas and oceans. World Ocean Network will promote and participate in the event.

JUNE

 

June 3-5

ECSITE annual conference, DASA, Dortmund, Germany.

In collaboration with ECSITE and Nausicaá, World Ocean Network will participate in the session “The Political Power of Science Centres, Museums and Aquariums” to describe successful advocacy initiatives such as achieving official designation of World Oceans Day, empowerment of young generation through youth parliaments and forums.

 

June 5

World Environment Day.

“Week for Sea, Islands,” Vietnam, June 1-8.

 

June 8

World Oceans Day: In conjunction with The Ocean Project, World Ocean Network will promote the theme Oceans of Life for 2010 about the services that the oceans provide to humankind in link with the International Year of Biodiversity.

“Journées de la mer,”  France, a celebration of the sea, June 4-8,

The Coral Triangle Initiative has announced it will participate in World Oceans Day,

In association with society of Environment Education & Development (SEED) in India.

 

June 21-25

UNICPOLOS, 11th meeting of the United Nations Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea, New York, USA. World Ocean Network will promote public education and information to become part of international ocean governance decision making processes.

 

SEPTEMBER

 

September 7-10

California and the World Ocean 2010 Conference, Hyatt Regency San Francisco, USA.

September 25-28

International Conference on Climate Change and Indian Lakshdweep islands.

OCTOBER

 

October 2-5

ASTC Annual Conference and Exhibit Hall, Ho’okele–To Navigate: Science Centers as Wayfinders to New Horizons, Honolulu, Hawaii.

The conference will discuss the theme of “proactively addressing critical societal issues locally and globally where science understanding and public engagement are essential.”

 

October 3-10

Congress of the European Union of Aquarium Curators (EUAC) hosted by the Cretaquarium, Heraklion, Creta.

October 18-29

10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, Nagoya, Japan.

World Ocean Network will promote public education and mobilisation to become part of biodiversity conservation decision making processes.

 

October 27-31

37th International Festival of Underwater Pictures, Marseille, France.

The World Festival of Underwater Pictures (FMISM) promotes the wealth of the underwater world whilst at the same time creating public awareness about marine environment and cultivating public wish to live in harmony with the sea.

World Ocean Network will co-organise an Ocean International Public Debate.

 

October

2nd Global Forum on Oceans, Coasts and Islands – English Channel and North Sea Approach, Boulogne sur Mer, France.

The objective of the Forum is to promote exchanges and to organise meetings between coastal and marine environment scientists and stakeholders relevant to the integrated coastal and marine management process within the English Channel and the North Sea Region.

It will be organised jointly by the French Agency for Marine Protected Areas and World Ocean Network.

NOVEMBER

 

November 8-12

Sixteenth National Congress of Oceanography, XVI Congreso Nacional de Oceanografía, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.

 

 

 

 

L'effort de communication du Réseau Océan Mondial sur l'océan, le changement climatique et les sujets afférents sont développés dans le cadre du programme 2009-2010 du Forum Global sur les Océans, Côtes et Îles avec le soutien du Fonds Global pour l'Environnement et la Lighthouse Foundation.

En Europe, une action conjointe sur le changement climatique, engageant le public des centres de science, musées et aquariums  – Do you commit to action on climate change? I do. - diffusera des informations et assurera la promotion d'activités liées au changement climatique tout au long de l'année 2010.
