CITIZENS’ INITIATIVES

Atmospheric pollution, climate change, natural resource depletion, species loss. The environment is in danger. Yet together we can make a difference in the fight to save the ocean. Every individual gesture, no matter how small, is valuable, and will help us to turn the corner towards a more sustainable stewardship of the ocean.

In this section we invite you to share with us the initiatives you have taken or participated in which help to preserve the oceans.

In their words :

« My science teacher awarded me my Citizen of the Ocean passport. I participated in World Ocean Day ; now, I collect batteries for recycling and I travel around on foot rather than by car. With my family, I sort the rubbish for recycling. I don’t buy shellfish. We choose the seafood products that we eat very carefully. »

Mimi Hemengway, Ladue Middle School, St. Louis, Missouri.

« I planted a tree. I organised a car share to get to my sports activities. I turn off the light when I leave a room. I showed my mother the advice sheets on seafood products and, happily, the fish I eat are not among the ones that are overfished and are not bad for my health. »

Rachel Ahlemeier, Ladue Middle School, St. Louis, Missouri.
