APECAM , is a NGO established in 1999 and legalised in 2001, based in Yaoundé , CAMEROON in the Congo basin. The goal of the association is to protect the environment, promote young people and the sustainable management of natural resources, participate in national, regional and international forums, ecotourism, the practice of good governance. Yaoundé, a cosmopolitan city built on seven hills, has an Equatorial Guinea-type climate, with temperatures ranging between 15°C and 22°C. Its coastal zone is KRIBI, IMBE where the climate is mild and the zone is rich in halieutic products and mangroves abound. The activities being undertaken by APECAM are as follows:

National ASSOCIATION for the protection of sea turtles (KUD’A Tube) |
The National ASSOCIATION for the protection of sea turtles (KUD’A Tube), in Cameroon , is an association whose aim is the protection of sea turtles and their habitat. It thus covers in general the protection of all coastal resources including dolphins, manatees, herbariums, sand banks and water fowl. The Association is governed by the Cameroonian law on associations, a convention covering a cooperation agreement with the Cameroon Ministry for Forests and Fauna. It has some thirty members and many supporters. It is based at EBODJE (Campo district) 50 km from Kribi with offices in Kribi (Ocean department). Our future activities will, as a priority, be based on: making local populations, authorities and economic operators with activities on the coast or at sea aware of the problem and reinforcing legislation. In order to do this, subjects have already been chosen for Environment Day (5 June) and World Ocean Day (8 June) which are celebrated each year. A 3-day KUDU festival is envisaged to this end in Kribi town. |

KELONIA , the sea turtle observatory, managed by the CEDTM association (Sea Turtle Study and Discovery Centre of Réunion - Centre d'Etude et de Découverte des Tortues Marines de La Réunion), situated at Saint Leu, Réunion Island. This establishment has a twofold vocation: to heighten awareness of the conservation of the natural and cultural heritage associated with sea turtles and to develop programmes for the study and conservation of sea turtles and their habitat. The action to be taken for World Ocean Day 2007 is centred on rehabilitating beaches where sea turtles lay their eggs on Réunion. It will take place at Saint Leu on the beach called « la Pointe des châteaux » in partnership with the college of « la Pointe des châteaux » and St Leu townhall. |

Les Villas du lagon |
VILLAS DU LAGON, at Saint Gilles Les Bains , on REUNION , are investing in the protection of the Oceans on 8 June 2007 , the date of the rendez-vous for protectors of the Ocean. On this occasion, « Villas du Lagon » want to demonstrate their commitment by setting up the « Eco Village ». In each « house» interactive and instructive workshops will make the public aware of the problem as well as the pupils from the primary school in l’Hermitage. « Villas du Lagon » will welcome friends of the Ocean from 9am until 4pm at the hotel’s nautical base. The event will be educational in tone since the idea is to transmit a warning and a conservation message, but it is also hoped to include a games aspect: the best of apprenticeships is play! Hence the site will be divided into two sections: on one side, activities to make people aware involving specialists and on the other, exhibitors showing nautical leisure services available. This day is a perfect way to show REUNION and all its assets in another light.
Consequently, « Villas du Lagon » propose the following activities: Activity 1 : « protecting submarine life » in collaboration with the ECO GARDES of REUNION MARINE PARK . Activity 2 : « life-saving actions in the event of a problem at sea » in collaboration with the RED CROSS. Activity 3 : « Discover jet skis » (only exhibited) in collaboration with GENERATION JET. Activity 4 : Submarine dive « discovering the reef » in collaboration with OLIVIER BOLLET PLONGEE SOUS MARINE. THE SOCIETY FOR ORNITHOLOGICAL STUDIES OF REUNION (SEOR) is an association working for the protection of nature and more particularly of birds on Reunion . The SEOR undertakes a campaign each year to rescue birds which have been reported as in difficulties on the island. This operation concerns more especially 4 species of Petrel, living at sea and coming back to the island to breed. The young of the species are disorientated by the lights and fall to the ground when they take off. A rescue network, set up by the SEOR and made up of volunteers and relays such as fire stations, gendarmes and veterinary clinics, enables the birds to be collected and released as quickly as possible. We propose activities to 2 or 3 classes (place not specified) on 8 June 2007 on the theme of discovering the marine birdlife of Reunion and the problem of lighting.

The INTERNATIONAL OCEAN INSTITUTE, Southern Africa (University of the Western Cape , South Africa ) Ocean Awareness and Careers Day June 8th: The event, held on the campus of the University of the Western Cape, will heighten awareness of some of the key problems faced by the oceans, and provide practical ways in which people can do their part as individuals to make a difference, from very simple and practical actions such as reducing litter or making sustainable choices about seafood, to volunteering and even choosing an ocean-related career. IOI-SA will be inviting partners in ocean-related fields to showcase their work and opportunities for careers involving the ocean. Examples of such organizations include government departments, conservation agencies, public education and awareness organizations, shipping industry, port operations, defense, technology, science, social sciences, mining industry, fishing industry, etc. Visitors will be given a flyer highlighting how they can make a difference, as well as a small gift which will hopefully carry the event's impact into the future by continuing to remind them of their experiences on the day. http://www.ioisa.org.za |

It regularly intervenes in schools in the framework of educational activities vis-à-vis the environment. « Terre d’Avenir » is also a partner of the commune of Moule, responsible for eco-dives every Wednesday which reconcile ecology and the discovery of diving. On behalf of the DIREN, it organises the Action Coral stand during the main holidays the aim of which is to make beach users aware of the fragility of coral reefs.

CRESSMA ( Regional Centre for Undersea Studies and Sports - Centre Régional d'Etudes et de Sports Sous Marins) is a non-profit association under the law of 1901. The association’s aim is to develop and encourage, by all appropriate means, from a sporting or scientific aspect, knowledge of the sub-aquatic world together with the practice of all sub-aqua sports and activities, in particular harpoon fishing and suit diving. Affiliated to FFESSM and the DDJS, CRESSMA’s aim since 2004 has been to encourage a profound knowledge of the undersea flora and fauna. This year we are introducing an event in the framework of World Ocean Day. This action day will be held at Fond Boucher, a commune of Bellefontaine en Martinique , on 3 June. A quiz will be given to a class of CM2. In the middle of the day lots will be drawn. In the morning an underwater and beach-based clean-up will collect waste. The waste collected will be exhibited showing its biodegradability. ACROPORIS sera présentsur plusieurs fronts le 8 Juin 2007: Sur l’hexagone, de Monaco à Nice, en partenariat avec le Musée Océanographique de Monaco, la Maison de l’Environnement de Nice et le Marine Aquarium Council, l’association projette de monter un Forum de l’Océan au musée Océanographique. Néanmoins, si le projet devait être reporté, les animations classiques seront au rendez-vous avec des jeux, projections, conférences et randonnées de l’Océan. Une visioconférence sera alors organisée depuis la Maison de l’Environnement. A perpignan, Son antenne étudiante, SINBAD organisera des animations avec une école, en collaboration avec l’association étudiante Energie Nouvelle, sur la plage de St Cyprien. Un nettoyage de plage sera effectué sur le littoral entre Canet en Roussillon et St Cyprien. A La Rochelle, SINBAD La Rochelle accueillera les écoles de la ville pour des animations sur la plage des Minimes en partenariat avec L’E.C.O.L.E DE LA MER , LES PETITS DEBROUILLARDS, ECHO MER et d’autres partenaires. Un projet de visioconférence avec la classe Océansemble sur le site de l’Aquarium de La Rochelle est à concrétiser. Une exposition sera également présentée sur la mission Nord Sulawesi 2006 à l’Université de La Rochelle. Sur d’autres continents, En Indonésie, sur Nain – Mantehague, une programmation est en cours avec les écoliers des deux îles, comprenant des rencontres, initiations découvertes de récifs coralliens, collectes de déchets, contes et musiques… à Tumbak, le même genre d’activités est prévu pour les adultes et enfants du village. Célébration de la Journée Mondiale de l’Océan prévue dans le cadre des classes Océansemble avec le partenariat des associations CAREM au Sénégal et CLEAN BEACH en Mauritanie, et de l’association APECAM au Cameroun. |

A L’AQUARIUM DE LA ROCHELLE l'édition 2007 de la Journée Mondiale de l'Océan se déroulera le vendredi 8 juin sur la plage de la Concurrence à La Rochelle, de 10 h à 19 h. Elle se déroulera en deux temps. Tout d'abord des ateliers pédagogiques, ludiques et gratuits pour les enfants tout le long de la journée du 8 juin (10 h - 16 h 30). Ensuite, en fin de journée (17 h - 19 h) le Café de la Mer proposera trois tables rondes animées par des professionnels et des scientifiques. Les thèmes développés cette année seront le réchauffement climatique et l’adaptation des animaux au climat. |

L'ASSOCIATION MERTERRE a été créée en avril 2000. Elle est basée à Marseille, en France. Elle a pour objectif principal de contribuer à la réduction de la pollution des eaux par les macro déchets. Elle a créé en 2006, l'Observatoire des Déchets en Milieux Aquatiques (ODEMA), un outil de sensibilisation et d'aide à la décision. Pour la Journée Mondiale de l’Océan de 2007, MerTerre poursuit son partenariat engagé depuis 2006 avec la Fédération Française d’Etudes et de Sports Sous Marins et Longitude 181 Nature. Des fiches de caractérisation des déchets seront complétées lors des nettoyages des sites de plongée organisés le 3 juin 2007. MerTerre réalisera le bilan. Il sera diffusé sur les sites des 3 partenaires . |

Le centre d’animation Garef Océanographique à Paris , centre de loisirs pour les jeunes sur l’Environnement et le monde marin, célébrera la Journée Mondiale de l’Océan le 8 juin 2007 en organisant un rassemblement dynamique dans le Palais de la découverte (Paris 8eme) autour de la chaîne alimentaire marine dans le cadre de l’exposition INVISIBLE, zoom sur le plancton et de l’année polaire internationale. Le public (scolaire le vendredi 8 juin et individuels le week-end du 9 et 10 juin) participera à la création d’un "iceberg de la vie marine" qui réunira la diversité du monde marin en dessins avec une partie émergée représentant les espèces de bout de chaîne et une partie immergée pour les espèces mal connues que représentent le plancton, à la base des réseaux trophiques. |

La Cité de la Mer organise, du 4 au 10 juin, la Semaine Mondiale de l'Océan. Dans le Pavillon des Expositions Permanentes, L’équipe biologique de La Cité de la Mer propose, pour la 2ème année consécutive, une scénographie coup de poing… L’objectif : interpeller le public d’une manière très directe sur la protection des océans. Le samedi 9 et dimanche 10 juin, un Village Citoyens de l’Océan sera installé dans la Nef d’Accueil. Il réunira des structures, des associations d’éducation à l’environnement et permettra aux visiteurs de s’informer et d’agir pour une meilleure protection de notre Planète Bleue. Destination Planète Mer |
L’Association Destination Planète Mer fêtera la journée mondiale de l’océan le 9 juin sur l’île des Embiez. Les festivités artistiques, musicales, scientifiques seront proposées sur le thème « Devenons Citoyen de l’Océan ». Entre autres, le lâcher d’une tortue caouanne, avec à quai, un atelier « hôpital des tortues », des ateliers découvertes, des films interactifs, des quiz. Les jeunes marins sensibiliseront le public par des chants, de la musique, afin d’inciter celui-ci à faire les bons gestes pour le respect de l’Océan, ils présenteront également le film des mini croisières écologiques et pédagogiques de la saison 2006 et une exposition de photos réalisées par l’association. L’association accueillera la Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer, et des maîtres chiens sauveteurs aquatiques avec démonstration. Le Passeport du Citoyen de l’Océan sera distribué pour officialiser cette journée riche en actions qui sera clôturée par une pièce de théâtre jouée par les marins porte-paroles :Le grand voyage des arbres écrit par Bernard Abeille. This day of action will be organised on Sunday 3 June, all along the French coastline and in many countries and islands. Pour souligner la nécessité toujours croissante de sensibiliser le grand public à la préservation de l’océan et à son utilisation responsable que l’on parle de pêche, de transport maritime ou de préservation de la biodiversité, NAUSICAA organise avec les partenaires du projet MARTINS une journée de réflexion et de débat autour du Livre vert sur la future politique maritime de l’union européenne. Cette journée se déroulera à NAUSICAA le 7 juin 2007 à la veille de la Journée Mondiale de l'Océan. Les partenaires MARTINS élaboreront avec des étudiants de leur structure une contribution à la consultation publique sur le Livre vert lancée par la Commission Européenne autour des thèmes suivants : la technologie, le volet social et l’emploi, l’environnement, la gestion des usages et le droit maritime. Le projet MARTINS rassemble 6 partenaires de 5 pays européens sur le thème de la sécurité maritime. MARTINS, Maritime Training in Safety agit pour un renforcement de la sécurité en mer par l’amélioration de la formation des usagers de la mer. ASSISES JEUNES & MEDITERRANEE NETWORK , a member of the World Ocean Network, groups associations from throughout the Mediterranean basin working for the protection of and education about the marine environment. Once again, this year, on 8 June 2007 , the members of this Network will be celebrating World Ocean Day in their own countries with awareness campaigns so that everyone can appreciate the richness and fragility of the Ocean and more especially of the Mediterranean . The French association behind this Euro-Mediterranean network, the Centre for the Discovery of the Marine World (« Centre de Découverte du Monde Marin »), is proposing with the « Maison de la Nature et de l’Environnement » in Villefranche-sur-Mer(Alpes-Maritimes) to celebrate World Ocean Day on Saturday 9 June 2007 with a day of awareness of the beauty and riches of the Mediterranean. Activities with stands (pedagogical basin on the fauna of the coastline, presentation on eco-actions for beach users, events concerning the local maritime heritage) will be open to the public on Marinières beach in Villefranche-sur-Mer, with as a giveaway, a unique opportunity to discover, free of charge, by sea kayak the rocky coastline of Villefranche’s harbour, one of the most beautiful along the Côte d’Azur. On the occasion of World Ocean Day, Surfrider Foundation is organising on Saturday 9 June 2007 a Europe-wide event on the quality of coastal waters. « Paddles » (events using oar-power) and awareness workshops will be organised along Europe ’s coastline. The venues will soon be specified. For this day, Surfrider Foundation will publish a report on the quality of bathing water and the consequences of the new European directive.

THE ACQUARIO DI GENOVA will have for the WOD, a rich calendar of events. The Youth consultation on the European Union’s Green Book on Europe ’s Future Marine Policy : In particular, on June 8 the Acquario di Genova has scheduled a workshop with secondary school and university students to be held in the aquarium’s Nautilus Hall to offer their contribution to the debate on the Green Book and the European Marine Policy. The conference will focus specifically on Protected Marine Areas. Conference with the Associazione Amici dell’Acquario on Protected Marine Areas : The Associazione Amici dell’Acquario participates in the celebration of World Ocean Day with a conference on Protected Marine Areas, with special reference to the area of Portofino . The conference, which will see the participation of Augusto SARTORi, President of the Portofino Marine Reserve, Giorgio FANCIULLi, Director of the Marine Park , Antonio DI NATALE, Scientific Counsellor for the Acquario di Genova and President of the Reserve Committee, Giorgio MASSA will deal with the subject of the mission, organisation, and management of a protected marine area. The conference will be held on Friday, June 8 in the Auditorium of the Acquario di Genova, at 5:50 p.m. The conference is free and open to the public while seats last. June 4-15: Educational seminars for the public on the species of the Mediterranean Sea: From the 4th to the 15th of June, Monday through Friday, experts from the Acquario di Genova will meet the public twice a day for an educational seminar on certain species of Mediterranean marine animals with which it is easy to come into contact with during the summer season: stingrays, skates, weevers and jellyfish. The aim of the seminars, which will be held in the exhibition halls along the tactile tanks, is to offer visitors precise information on the animals’ biology and ecology, making them aware of how one should behave when in contact with these animals in their natural environment in order to avoid incidents due to incautious behaviour. June 15: presentation of the “nautical vehicle Proteus”. June 20: release back to nature of a number of specimens of Emys orbicularis ingauna. The project for the study and preservation of the subspecies of the palustral turtle Emys orbicularis ingauna, reaches its final phase which features the release back to nature of 6 adult specimens which were bred in controlled environments in the Acquario di Genova and in the Centro Emys of Leca d’Albenga. Among the scheduled activities for the celebration of World Ocean Day are the family activities organised by the Educational Department of the Porto Antico di Genova for the Mondo Mare Festival, the festival dedicated to the world of the sea which takes place in Liguria during weekends in June on initiative of the Associazione MondoMare Festival in collaboration with Regione Liguria. This initiative is valid for the Passport as Citizen of the Ocean, a concrete instrument with which to act in favour of the safeguard of marine and ocean environments, created by the World Ocean Network and promoted by Costa Edutainment and by the Fondazione Acquario di Genova. |

ROTTERDAM ZOO is a non-profit organisation with four main goals; nature conservation, recreation, education and applied scientific research. The aquarium, called the Oceanium, contains approximately 7 million litres of natural seawater and has its main focus on the Northsea/Atlantic., Caribbean and Californian kelp forest biotopes. The Oceanium started celebrating World Ocean Day in the year 2005 and has been distributing passports ever since. This year the Dutch version of the children's passport will be presented on WOD, June 8th. The Northsea Foundation and Coastal Union will present the public with information and activities and there will be a ROV from the Seafoundation in one of the larger tanks. Finally, a movie showing the beauty of the Nortsea will be shown, movies made by Morganonline can be seen from Platform Zeezicht and underwater pictures will be presented. |

THE AQUARIUM FINISTERRAE, in Spain, with a group of European aquariums, are collaborating in the Green Paper consultation and have put together an activity that consists of a debate forum about ocean-related topics that most interest young people. World Ocean Day is on 8 June 2007, and on that day schoolchildren from La Coruna who wish to take part will meet at the Aquarium to draw up a list of the ten topics that most interest them, and a proposal for action which in their opinion would be best for the European Union to adopt. They will then share their conclusions with schoolchildren from other European cities via video conference. Everyone together will write a text that will form part of the Green Book. |

THE DEEP, in Great Britain : This event will celebrate both World Environment Day and World Ocean Day and will be packed full of activities for children, families and businesses. Focusing on how we interact with the environment and the oceans there will be lots of opportunities to learn how we can live our lives in a greener, more environmentally friendly way. The event aims to showcase local businesses and organisations that are working hand in hand to help conserve the environment in practical everyday ways. There will be exhibitors from both the public and private sectors displaying everything from regionally important recycling and waste management programmes to environmentally friendly cleaning chemicals, renewable technologies, green office furniture, energy efficient IT systems, locally produced foods and even hybrid vehicles. Highlights: Seminar on Environmental Legislation, compliance, recycling advice and workshops, green Business advice, renewable technology demonstrations, hybrid cars, environmentally friendly cleaning, products information on Marine Conservation. |

TE MANA O TE MOANA (responsible for Moorea’s turtle clinic), is organising, on 8 June, in partnership with the Moorea Dolphin Center and the hôtel Intercontinental Resort and Spa Moorea, various events to highlight World Ocean Day in French Polynesia. This will be an opportunity to reinforce the public’s and school’s awareness of the importance of protecting the environment. First of all, a local school in Moorea ( Tahiti , French Polynesia ), has been selected to participate in this day. An artistic creativity competition on the themes of "let’s protect the oceans, let’s recycle our waste" and "2007: the year of the dolphin" will be organised in situ (artistic creation by pupils on wood supports with a material reusable waste collected after a clean-up of Tetiaroa atoll (plastics, papers…) and natural materials (sand, wood…). Then, a video on the theme of: "The clean-up of Tetiaroa atoll undertaken between 17 and 19 April" will be shown to pupils and the public in order to demonstrate to them already existing damage due to pollution and the importance of preserving our environment. After that, a question and answer session will be held in the form of small competitions on the theme of "the protection of the ocean"; winners will receive bracelets specially created for the occasion bearing the slogan " 8 June: World Ocean Day, let’s protect turtles and the ocean". In addition, turtles will be released in the presence of the class in question and the Minister of the Environment. Lastly, in parallel with this invitation to schoolchildren, a public "Open Day" will help to make tourists (passers-by) and local people aware of the problem. “Passports of the Citizen of the Ocean” will be distributed to people who want to contribute to the protection of the ocean. |
